OTHER INDUSTRIES

Branches of industrial production are today the most visible ones in economic life of Berat region.

Some of the most important are:

• Production of construction materials,
• Excavation of stone slabs and of decorative stone,
• Wood processing industry,
• Leather processing industry,
• Confectioning industry.

There are now in Berat a relatively high number of companies working in these sectors, having a considerable weight in district and national economy.

• Production of construction materials is one of the most important sectors. This kind of industry is developed rapidly on last years, owing to plentiful resources of raw construction materials (gravel, sand) and natural stone (Urë Vajgurore, Tërpan, Tomor) which are in Berat district.

• Another important branch is that of excavation of decorative stone slabs. There are many companies in Berat that are exporting this kind of product in Greece and Italy .

• Wood processing and furniture production industry is another sector where are working a considerable number of companies, producing and trading furniture of all kinds. At this sector there are some companies collaborating with foreign partners, trading their products out of the Berat.

• Another very important industrial sector is gathering and processing of leather, which is exported in Italy, Greece and Turkey. In this sector too, are working join-ventures of home and foreign companies.

• At the industry of confection production are working with “FASON” (with foreign raw material) some companies, mainly Italian-Albanian joint ventures, which have employed the greatest number of workers in private sector. This is because the value of labour power in Berat is of low cost and the task system for this business is favorable. That is because in Berat have been grown many such companies.
